Fall Trail Cleaning at French Rapids (updated 10/30/09)

November 1, 2009

Join us and help us prepare the French Rapids trails for the upcoming ski season.

I'll need to know who and how many are coming out Sunday to help with the French Trail Fall Clean-up.  We are providing a hot lunch for those volunteers that come.

Meet at the boat landing at 12:30.  The meal will be served by the lake inside the French Trail grounds.  Bring a folding chair if you'd rather not sit on the ground.  Dinner will be served around 2:00, depending on work completed.  At this point I count aprox. 20 people.  We'll break off into groups and assign trails.

Equipment you'll need:  gloves, rakes, pruners, bow saws.  If you have a "walkie talkie" set, bring it as well.  Power trimmers would be a plus if you have one.  There won't be any need to bring chain saws.  The trail committee will provide what will be needed.

Please click here to email Mark if you are able to help!

Annual BNSC Ski Swap
November 21, 2009

Brainerd High School Cafeteria

Registration    07:30-09:00

Open Swap      09:00-Noon

Pickup        Noon- 1:00 PM

Do you have any winter sports equipment that you’d like to upgrade or replace? If so, the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club sponsored SKI SWAP is the place to do so. The SWAP is the place where you can find those special deals on used equipment as well as new products from area dealers.

Registration of items will be Saturday, Nov. 21 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. Special tags will be provided to mark all items and BNSC members will assist with tagging and pricing questions. If you’re coming to purchase only, doors will open at 9:00 and the SWAP will run until 12:00. Between 12:00-1:00, people can either collect money from sold items and/or pick up unsold items. Unclaimed goods will either be discarded or become
property of the BNSC.

Similar to past years, the BNSC will collect 15% of the merchandise sales from all non-club members.  However, any current member (or those that join at the SWAP) will pay only 10% - another special advantage to club members and another reason to tell your skiing friends to join the club!

As usual, local ski shops will have new and rental items for sale. We always ask participating retail shops to bring an extra supply of youth/teen equipment as this is the area that usually receives the most interest. So check your X-C stuff and other winter sports items like downhill skis, snow boards, figure/hockey skates, car top
carriers, etc. Decide what you’d like to bring as well as what equipment you’d like to buy.

If you’d like to help out with the many jobs needed to run
an event of this size, please call Jeff DeVaney at 218-829-7472.
Thanks much and we’ll see you at the SWAP!

Pequot Lakes Ski Lessons

The Brainerd Nordic Ski Club and Pequot Lakes Community Education offered cross country ski lessons for kids at Eagle View Elementary School from January through March.  Nineteen first through fifth graders participated in the classes, which were taught by Deanne (Meyer) Trottier.  The ski club owns the equipment which was used by the participants.  Trails were groomed by the ski club through the Eagle View Nature Center.  With the good ski conditions and weather, we were able to offer classes for longer into March.  The kids were eager learners and showed much improvement by the end of the class.  Thank you to John Taylor and Bill Meyer for your work that helped make the kids ski classes a success.
